Band announce they will ‘no longer be associated’ with bandmate

A shocking announcement has sent waves through the heavy music world: a band has suddenly confirmed it will no longer be associated with someone who had been part of its history for decades.

For fans, the news came as a major surprise. Only recently, reports of tension within the band were being treated cautiously, but now the situation has received official confirmation.

What raised even more questions was the blunt wording of the statement. No reason for the split was given, and the post was later deleted, only fueling further speculation among fans.

The band in question is Slipknot, and the longtime member is DJ and keyboardist Sid Wilson. On August 14, the group announced that Wilson would no longer be associated with Slipknot and wished him the best in his future endeavors.

Wilson joined Slipknot in 1998, shortly before the release of the band’s self-titled debut album in 1999. Over nearly 28 years, he became an unmistakable part of the group’s sound, image, and explosive live performances.

Rumors about his possible departure first surfaced in late July. Reports suggested the decision may not have been sudden and that tension between Wilson and other members of the band had allegedly been building for some time.

The situation became even more confusing after guitarist Jim Root reacted to the early reports. He urged fans not to believe everything they read and suggested they wait until more information became available.

However, several weeks later, an official statement finally appeared. It was brief and offered no explanation for why the relationship with Wilson had come to an end. Wilson himself has also not publicly revealed the full reason behind his departure.

Following the announcement, Wilson reportedly changed the description on his Instagram profile. Instead of referencing his long association with Slipknot, he added the years “1997–2026,” which many fans interpreted as a clear sign that an era had officially ended.

His departure marks another major change in Slipknot’s lineup. Over the years, the band has already seen the exits of Chris Fehn and Craig Jones, while the deaths of Paul Gray and Joey Jordison permanently changed the group’s history.

For now, Slipknot has not revealed who might replace Wilson or how his departure could affect the band’s future plans. And with so few details being made public, one major question remains unanswered: what really became the final breaking point after almost three decades together?
