In a significant escalation of the Middle East conflict, Iran launched a series of ballistic missiles toward Tel Aviv, reportedly equipped with cluster warheads. Iranian officials said the हमला was retaliation for the killing of a senior security figure in a strike attributed to Israeli forces. The missiles lit up the skies over central Israel, damaging infrastructure and killing at least two civilians. The use of cluster munitions raises serious humanitarian concerns, as they disperse smaller explosives that can remain dangerous long after impact.

The strike is part of a broader surge in hostilities that has intensified since early 2026. Iran has carried out attacks on Israeli cities as well as U.S. bases and allied facilities across the Gulf, including in Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. These actions followed a series of assassinations of Iranian officials, which Tehran has vowed to avenge. In response, Israel and the United States have launched airstrikes within Iran, targeting military and nuclear sites.

Although Israel’s defense systems, including Iron Dome and Arrow-3, have intercepted many incoming missiles, the scale and sophistication of the attacks have strained these defenses. Civilians on both sides face increasing danger as casualties and damage rise.

The conflict is also having global consequences. Energy markets have surged following strikes on Gulf infrastructure, while international concern continues to grow. Diplomatic efforts have so far failed to ease tensions, leaving the region in a volatile and uncertain state.
